Within its ranks, the Guild supports a core of framers and scholars who study and work with old buildings as well as new ones built with traditional framing systems. This group the Traditional Timber Framers Research and Advisory Group (TTRAG) actively pursues a better understanding of historic timber frame structures and techniques.Old buildings are precious even if they are to be torn down, and this group surveys old historic buildings before they're changed or razed to have the information available to future scholars and builders. Within the Guild, they play an important educational role, contributing to Guild publications and conferences and holding TTRAG symposia. Beyond its educational service to the membership, the Guild works with others to promote sound, sustainable forestry practices to assure a timber supply for future generations. In its efforts, the Guild has gathered support from wood users and environmentalists alike in its approach to forest management officials. As a first-line means of conservation, certain Guild companies specialize in the supply of salvage timber for recycling by timber framers into newly made frames. | ||||||||||
