This spring, TTRAG will host a 3-day conference and tour in western Massachusetts. This conference will feature a tour of the Northfield area led by J. Ritchie Garrison and Bill Flynt. Mr. Flynt is an architectural conservator at Historic Deerfield and will be presenting on dendrochronology and Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS) carbon 14 dating. Mr. Garrison is the director of the Winterthur Program in American Material Culture at the University of Delaware, and has studied and written about the material culture of Franklin County, MA, extensively. In addition to leading the Saturday tour, he will be speaking about his 2006 publication, Two Carpenters: Architecture and Building in Early New England. The book relates an account of the lives of two brothers, Calvin and George Stearns, who were carpenters during the first half of the nineteenth century.
