I was quite encourage to find this site. I anticipate living in a timber frame home one day. Through my investigations of timber frame, which are just begininng, there do not appear to be any standard plans for timber frame home designs. I realize that the style of construction may not make common plans possible, or simply the community does not want any standard plans. If there are any books of plans, could someone point me in the right direction. I would also like a recommendation on a best first book to read about timber frame construction. I have seen several from Jack Sobon and Ted Benson. Which title would be best for some just getting under way.

I am glad I came across your site and to know that traditional construction is still ocurring, particularly in technological intensive USA. I am interested to know of anybody doing timber framing here in Australia. We have plantation radiata pine which can be hewed into nice beams, which when combined with straw bael walls will be great sustainable houses and we can then leave our forests alone. I wondered if you reply to peoples comments, like the guy who asked " about how you determine where the collar tie should go?".Any good luck to you all.cheeriogary DornPermaculture architect

We would like to thank everybody who contacted us on the “Wolf Building System”. Many of you just wanted to know more about the system out of curiosity or general interest. Some are so excited they are seriously considering this technology for their own new homes. With others, we are already interchanging design ideas and proposals. For this reason we would like to expand our network of contacts to three groups of suppliers in North America: 1) Glue-Lamination Manufacturers for the post and beam structural framing system. Our main supplier here in Alberta produces laminations with spruce and pine, which is an excellent material for the housing industry and has been used in the European housing market for about 40 years.2) Construction Hardware Manufacturers for the patented “Wolf's Hook” hardware connecting device.3) Insulation Panel Manufacturers for the envelope of the building (wall, floor and roof systems)Contractors with credentials for excellent workmanship who are interested to build with the ‘Wolf Building System’ are invited to contact us - who knows, maybe there is a potential client in your neighborhood who wants to build with the ‘Wolf Building System’ and you could still use your local suppliers and trades for completing the project. Or perhaps you see an opportunity to be one of the first using this new generation of construction technology.

Nice site. We finished TF shed last year and are now building combination TF/log cabin sugarhouse here in VT. Couple of suggetions: you might have apage showing shrinkage rates for different kinds of wood (we buildwith green lumber here) and photos (a la Wooden Boat magazine's listing ofNew Launchings) of new constructions. Perhaps these could be emailed into some addressand you could upload. Will definitely bookmark.

I was very impressed with article on the back cover of the November issue of Fine Homebuilding. The trebuchet looks ominous and quite majestic. I would like to inform you of an event held in Lewes, DE on the first weekend following Halloween called " Punkin Chunkin". The event is simply who can throw an 8-10 lb. pumkin the farthest distance without using explosives or incendiary devices. Any mechanical device may be used; sling-shot, centrifugal, air cannon or any thing else that meets the rules; V-8s have also powered some units! It would be very impressive if the trebuchet could be entered in the competition. If interested , I'm sure the Lewes Chamber of Commerce could help in entrance criteria. If you have any questions I could help with, please feel free to call at (302) 677-3784.
