EXCITING BUILDING NEWS!!
Dear reader,
finally here it is, the new WebSite for the “WOLF BUILDING SYSTEM”!
We had a long list of interested parties, which asked to be informed about this new site as soon as it would be on the Net. Unfortunately, we had a computer crash which wiped out a large bank of information, and with it we also lost the list of our friends and customers. We would like to appologize to all of you and hope that you will contact us again per Email and give us your comments on our new WOLF BUILDING SYSTEM WebSite. We would be really happy to hear from you again. Thank you all for your interest and support, and have a very healthy and successful 1998!

Hello all, I just found this web site and am quite pleased to find out about the Dutch Barn seminar coming up. Just in time because I may be building one for a customer this summer, if all goes right. I'm currently working on a frame first built in 1682, now going up as an addition to a house in Old Wethersfield. I also am an 18th century restoration mason. It's certainly nice to enjoy what one does for a living. hope to meet some of you later Rod Bishop <rbishop01@snet.net> Colchester, Ct. - Friday, January 30, 1998 at 21:29:00 (EST) Hallo Timberframers! Charles Ellis Laceyville, PA US - Tuesday, January 20, 1998 at 20:43:26 (EST) DESIGN POSITION AVAILABLE! Goshen timber frames is looking for a timber frame designer. The pay would depend on experience. One perk for a single guy would be that he could live in one of the student cabins ( timber frames of course ) for free. Hip and valley experience a plus but not necesary. We would also consider training a dedicated young engineer or architect. If interested contact Steve Smith at 704 524 8662. For an example of the kind of projects we do check out the post directly below this one, which we designed. Steve Smith <goshen@dnet.net> Franklin, NC USA - Tuesday, January 20, 1998 at 19:37:05 (EST) This is a great website! We wanted to build our church building with a timber frame. We had average carpenter's skills and had read alot about how to do it but were unsure how to start. Three of us from our church attended a workshop at Goshen Timber Frames in Franklin NC in Nov 97. They worked our tails off but made sure we came away with the basic skills we needed to do the job. We also made alot of great new friends there. We returned home, got to work and are 80% finished with a 4 bent hammerbeam frame that fits like a dream. We even amazed ourselves! Thanks to all you folk at Goshen. If you are in the Williamsburg or Richmond area and want to talk framing give me a call at 804-829-2582. Jay Wise <lsucncms@erols.com> Charles City , VA USA - Tuesday, January 20, 1998 at 15:10:56 (EST) Great Site - Plan to join and involve myself and my company "CTK Professional Painting Teams" in many of the efforts and projects. Thanks for being here. Ray Ashcraft <ctk@one.net> Cincinnati, OH USofA - Tuesday, January 20, 1998 at 11:22:48 (EST) Further information to the Traditional Hewing Course message sent on Jan 17\98. The date for the course is set for August 12 -13 -14th 1998. There is available many campgrounds in the immediate area, along with lots of extra curricular areas to visit when you are here. The Historic site of Upper Canada Village is close by and close examination of the timberframe structures will be one of the criteria used for course workmanship. The capital Ottawa is within 50 miles and is a nice days drive also. The course instructor is Yours truly, and with 27 years of demonstrating the traditional timberframing craft to the visiting public I feel that I can fill your need for proper instruction on the use of Traditional axes and Adzes. I suggest that you learn with your own tools, but I will supply tools if needed. I have also gained a vast amount of knowledge on the proper care and maintenance of water powered mills especially muley saw mills, wollen mills, and both steam powered and water powered grist mills. I invite queries from persons having problems in this area. Through the years I have constructed many mid 19th century buildings, using traditional tools and starting from the round fresh cut timbers. Included are: barns, drivesheds, tinshops, smokehouses, firengine halls, etc. The raising of these buildings was done in a traditional manner using man power only. Enough chatter for now hoping to hear from those that are interested in the course, or need help in any way, Richard C Richard Casselman <richardc@mor-net.on.ca> morisburg, on canada - Monday, January 19, 1998 at 13:21:08 (EST) I'm with the Bement-Billings Farmstead in upstate New York, a living history site interpreting farmlife from the 1840's. We have disassembled an English barn, but do not have a specific date for reconstruction. Photos of the disassembly can be viewed on our website. We were contacted by a fellow in Toronto, Canada, who has a timber frame structure he hopes to move. It's in the way of a highway project. How do I find timber frame people to recommend to him? Thank you Ed Nizalowski <edniz@prodigy.net> Newark Valley, NY USA - Monday, January 19, 1998 at 09:13:03 (EST) hello all you dedicated timberframers and those trly interested in traditional timberframing. This is my first visit to this web site and I am really enjoying it. i noticed that there are a few individuals interested in courses dealing with traditional timberframing. This ten bent house is being built solely by volunteers, just like you. We as amateur timber framer's working with few resources find it essential to call upon the "community spirit" to accoplish our projects. It is how many timber frames used to get built and I am hoping to bring together collective of amateur framer's to assist one another when feasible. If you are interested in learning more about my project, or have one of your own, please write and tell me about it. I am interested in learning who is building what with so little. Thanks TFGA. Hemp delivered raw material for textils, rope, paper, ink and was used as a staple diat and medicine. As a supplement to beverages stimulating and sexually arousing. He gave heavenly vision, ecstasy and strength. He served as a medium between man and god and protected life. Building on this information over the last thousand years a Herbalist remade a line of drinks and snacks, in which there is hemp extract. The legend of hemp lives on. For the sake, or better still how we can promote the effect of hemp world wide we have decided to start a photo competition, in which the positive properties of hemp are shown. In regular periods these posters will be displayed in artistic way throughout bars, pubs, clubs, hotels etc. etc. worldwide. For the selected poster a prize of ATS 20.000 (US-$ 1.400) will be awared to the photograph. Hemp stands for fun, happiness, erotic and ecology ... The slogan: "Spirit of Hemp". It's magic! "Spirit of Hemp" makes the impossible possible, makes negative positive, makes sad happy ... Possible themes: Politics, daily news etc. The possibilities are endless. I built a Timber Frame about 8 yrs. ago and I am having a problem with my front roof (north side). The kit came from Saw Mill River (now out of bussiness) the roof panels from Atlas Industries (under new managment). The panels are 1/2" OSB, 3 1/2" Urethane, 1/2" gypsum board construction, covered with #15 felt & 40yr. shingles. I am getting stains on the roof. They start out as a spot then spread down and out, almost as though someone had poured black paint on the roof and it ran down. There does not appear to be a pattern to the stains, execpt that they might be located over the rafters. I do not see the outline of the panels themselves. No one seems to know what the problem might be. What I need is someone (hopefully local) who has worked with this type of construction, that can identify and repair the problem. I can't tell if this is a serious problem or not. Also if anyone has any input I would really appreciate it.
