Timber framer looking to save a barnMy wife & I have been looking for a barn to save and move to our site near Leesburg Va. Maybe with your help we can find a barn to convert to our timber frame house. We would like to preserve the right frame/barn, by designing a house that will fit our needs and our hillside(with 5'run to 1' fall to the S.E.), like an old bank barn. We hope to have a 3(maybe 4) bay frame, around (3-4000 sq. ft.) The condition of the frame would be something like this; GOOD SHAPE DRY TIMBERS WITH ROOF we are not stuck on hand-hewn timbers and prefer square cut frames with a full bent & purlin system with out (2X_) rafters. The flooring and barn boards will be used for case work and stuff and all original hardware and fixtures would be nice to save and use. We have contacted some folks up in Penn. that save barns but with little luck. So far Marcus Brandt from Belthlehem Pa. has been some help but has not found anything to show us. Please let us know if you have any leads or info to save a barn from the sprawl of "development".Thank youSteve & Pam

IF THEY COME IT WILL GET BUILTI am looking for volunteers to help me build a, 10 bent, timber frame house this June and July '97. This is a non-for-profit adventure that could use all the help it can get. Beginners welcomed and no experience is necessary as I will teach you, and share the knowledge that I have learned from those kind enough to share it with me. If you already understand traditional square rule and have experience I "love" you and want you to come of course:) This house is NOT getting built, any time soon, without your help. I am all alone on this. I understand we all have our lives to deal with, but here is an opportunity to revive a community spirited building technique that will last for generations. Consider learning more about the project. I may be reached in person from 10am-4:30pm at (718) 935-5532.

Our door styles include raised panel, flat panel, wainscot panel, and knotty pine plywood . Cabinets are finished and ready for delivery or shipping. If you are interested in adding blue-stained cabinets to your timer frame home contact Frank at Brotus Mills, 307-745-0302. E-mail - Brotusmill@aol.com .

I am blowing the dust off the woodworking skills I learned in my boyhood from my father and this wonderful site will undoubtly be of great value for this task. Venezuela has an almost lost tradition of wood framing construction that stems from our spanish heritage and remains slightly only as part of the high end of home construction of our traditional families. It also remains in the construction of small boats and trawlers of the artesanal fishing industry.

Good site. I've just returned from the Fox Maple June Workshop. It was great. I need sources for timbers in theEast Texas area (including Arkansas, Louisana, Oklahoma, etc). Reclaimed long leaf pine, cypress (new or old), oak (new or old), or other. Prefer precision square planed. Thanks.
