Although I just joined the Guild and I only know one other member (Tom Cundif) I already feel like part of one huge family. I'm new to Timberframing and can't wait to attend my first raising or workshop. I'd love to work full time as an apprentice somewhere in the Pacific Northwest/Alaska, Rocky Mountains or Northern Minnesota/Wisconsin. I look foward to meeting as many of you as I can. Until then best of luck and best of framing!

I am constructing an 18x36 P&B cabin on Bois Blanc Island . I'm using recycled, 100 yr old timbers from two old Michigan barns. I'm a rookie to the max. I've learned what I know from Sobon's books and others. If interested in this project let me know. Needless to say, any info that may help me would be appreciated.

GUYANA TIMBER FRAME TRIP: I have been in contact with a mission in Guyana SA about doing a Timber Frame in Guyana. This would not be a comercial trip. Everyone that went would pay thier expenses there. All food and board would be provided by the mission. I am looking for people interested in going on this trip. It would be a chance to learn timber framing in a exotic place full of adventure. The local people cut the timbers in the jungle then carry them out by hand, then load them on canoes and paddle them to the building site. Anyone interested in this trip please contact Steve Smith of COWEE MTN TIMBER FRAMERS SCHOOL.

We are an architectural firm in San Francisco, Ca. looking for timber framers who would be interested in being involved in a winery project in Napa Valley. The timber frame portion of the project would be for the two fermentation buildings, each aproximately 6000 sq. ft. We will be using structural insulated panels for the roof and walls. Presently, we are in the design developement phase of the project and have selected a structural engineer. We are in a seismic zone 4 and need to work with someone who is familiar with those requirements or at least won't be surprised by them.

Hello, my name is Gentry Stevens, and I have recently come into the possession of an exceptionally nice, mid-19th century (1840's - 1850's) English style post and beam bank barn. It is approximately 60' long and 37' wide, and 30' tall. It has unbelievable handhewn virgin timber beams, including a 10" wide by 25' long by 2' thick center "humpback" style oak beam, numerous 18" by 2" by 10' planks w/square iron nails, and at least one 50' by 10" by 10" walnut beam. The building is in overall excellent condition, has over 3600 square feet of tongue and groove heart pine siding, a silo, two hay lofts, cattle pens, and copper lightning rods. It has a tin roof and tin siding covering the heart pine on three sides. The barn is not in disrepair, nor is it deteriorating. There are a couple of beams that may (and I stress "may") have to be replaced, but this would be extremely minimal. The ridge line on the roof is very straight, and the barn does not sag anywhere. The barn is located in Franklin County, Indiana, and I would like to sell it. Please contact me at gstevens@bonwell.com Thank you, Gentry Stevens

My family owns timberland in Southwest Alabama with very large oak and other hardwoods, which may be ideal for oversized lumber used in timber frame construction. I know that some mills specialize in such lumber and want to find any in the southeast interested in buying ours. Marc Pelham

We need to learn as much about timberframing as we can before we start to build our house. We are old enough to know that it is much better to be taught than to fumble around and make mistakes. We can come to you anywhere in the lower fourty eight. We have a new Timberking B-20 that will come with us. Hopefully we can learn a lot and be quite helpful at the same time. We are in Oklahoma so that's about the middle of the country. We can be reached through e-mail at jeanfirs@flash.net or by phone at 972-671-6781 or 918-623-2138

We live on a small farm in the suburbs of San Francisco. I am looking for carpenters who LOVE working with old wood and old structures. Our needs vary -- from maintaining an old barn& a brooder house, to remodeling two 1920s farmhouses which have been attached (one was moved to the site). Possibly, we will be erecting an old, small barn early next year. Please let me hear from you if you love what you do, are experienced and wll work in the East Bay.

I am very interested in trying to learn timber framing, but where do I start? I have found a few good books and I have started experimenting with my chainsaw. I am having trouble finding suppliers of the specialty tools that are required, if anyone can direct me to a business I would appreciate it. And finally I do intend on joining the guild, but will that help me to locate the means to learn the craft?

Hello from Chebeague Island, ME. We have two old post and beam barns out here on the island, and both need to be jacked up, with new cement posts placed underneath the structure. I have heard there is a new air bag process for raising structures. Most house movers will not come out to the island, and we are looking for books on traditional methods of cribbing, etc. The barns just need to be squared up, and they will go another 200 years. Please contact me via e-mail : jfkpt109@aol.com
