I am looking for an architect who would be interested in designing timber frame trusses for me. I want to begin a business of producing a few standard truss designs so builders might incorporate a certain amount of timber framing into their projects without costs going sky high.

My brother-in law, an engineer, started a timberframe cabin project for us about a year ago. He recovered old barn beams to use as the timbers. From what he says, he is about halfway into notching the beams. All of the beams have been cleaned and sanded. We are presently searching for someone to finish the job for us. We would need that person or people to finish preparing the beams, and either raise the structure or advise us how to raise it. Anyone in the area of Southeastern Indiana -or Southwestern Ohio that could help please contact us. The property on which the cabin will be built is in Brookville, IN, and the beams are at a nearby location.

I am writing an article for Canadian Home Workshop magazine on traditional framing techniques using green, unseasoned lumber. I'm having great difficulty finding anyone who uses green wood for framing and joinery. I understand the inherent problems with green wood, but I know it can be used properly. For example, when Windsor Castle was renovated after a massive fire in 1992, most of the framing was restored with green framing that forged together after it dried. It's basically the same technique furniture makers use when making Windsor chairs, where the joints pull together as it dries, making one solid joint that cannot be pulled apart. Basically, I'm wondering if: you know of anyone who does this type of work, preferably in Canada; and where I might find more concrete information on it. Thanks for your time, Jay Somerset Associate Editor Canadian Home Workshop

My family lives on a century old farm with a ditch running through it that was previously crossed by an old bridge that my grandfather built. We would like to rebuild the bridge using timber frame methods. Are there any folks in the Houston, Texas area who could be enlisted to build such a bridge? Thanks for any help you might be able to provide. Cordially, Helen Durham
