Attendees: Andrea Warchaizer, Tom Southworth, Rudy Christian, Chris Madigan, Will Beemer, Joel McCarty
Home Show report:
Joel reports on the Worcester home show: Mostly seems worth it, he says.
Much interest in the summer workshops at Heartwood, especially, and good
attendance at the demos. Thanks to many business reps for their help.
Joel recommends 2 people to (wo)man the booth next time. More
demonstrations. Rudy supports putting together a travelling road show
kit with all the gear ready including credit card stuff, etc. Joel
thinks we probably got 12 memberships and some workshop sign-ups out of
it. Develop a network of volunteers (TFG members) to help with this.
Joel will research the next likely one and prep for it a little more
thoroughly. Maybe four total for the year. Exec comm supports
continuing to pursue the home shows, for now. No joint table with TFBC.
Will reports phone and mail is being forwarded from B’ham. Bellingham
office is closed. 2-3 memberships coming in (1100+ to date) per day and
a healthy balance in the bank. Michele is processing members and
fulfilling orders. Will is setting up invoicing system. Working on some
western workshops.
Conference:
Will reports there are as many as 5 one-day workshops to be
offered. Maybe have 1-day workshops on Friday? Or no short (1 1/2 hour)
presentations on Friday, but rather 1/2 day sessions only- a tour, 3
hour workshop, golf, owner/builder workshop.
Heartwood registrations look good so far- approaching break even.
Employment agreement:
Tom will review the documents as prepared by Will
and Joel and make a recommendation (sign it, make changes, etc).
Joel’s office: Joel will make a proposal on this on rent etc.
arrangements.
ED communications:
Will and Joel continue to refine this. Carbon copies
to each ED? Too cumbersome. Regular phone communication seems to be the
trick. We’ll know more in a week or so, as the offices are in full gear.
Rudy leaves 8:30
Publication projects:
Membership directory will be handled by Joel (with Susan Witter and
Michele, probably). He is working on this.
Resource Guide- Joel will work on a proposal for logistics of doing
this.
Subscription Drive- for Timber Framing. We agreed to sell books of 10
subscriptions for $150. We’ll talk about this next Thursday (informal
potluck supper at Andrea’s).
Mortice and Tenon- Chris will work with Will and Joel on subscription
fulfillment (for this British Timber Framing magazine). Start with the
next issue?
Timber Framing on CDROM- Ken and Susan W. are working on putting
together an inventory of the number of pages that need to be scanned.
Then we will be able to put together a budget and some projections for
how many to print. We’d like to have this ready by year’s end but it
might push into ’00.
Smithsonian:
Joel asks how many t-shirts should he print? More research
needed on this critical question. He’ll be contacting New Hampshire
members to see who wants to be involved. He needs 3 helpers total.
