Day 12 Report

Another long day, beginning with just a touch of rain. There is hard work at all stations, heads down, looking for the bottom of the pile of work we have ahead of us. Having the city kids visit here for awhile seemed to pick up the pace considerably. Some of our guys have been on the road for quite awhile.

  1. Tom Haanen is working hard after dinner to transform this old piece of threshing bay floor into a handsome toolbox. First step is to find ALL the nails.
  2. This is the first half of what will turn out to be a nearly invisible scarf on a drive bay post, detailed and executed by Raymond Friend.
  3. Shopping with Jim; we went off to the City Services Garage looking for gin-pole material for our proposed hand raising next Saturday. I think we hit the mother lode.
  4. In a day filled with timber repair and joist thrashing, our treat was the arrival of an entire busload of inquisitive and energetic city kids. Park Commissioner Tim DeVore (r) and Dan Gustafson gave a small group something to think about when it comes to pegs. Brian Beals had them all spellbound up on the deck with his demonstrations of the power of levers. Plus we didn't lose a single kid.
  5. Isaac Henry (l) and Charlie Simonds going at it in tandem, fabricating a new rafter plate under the big top.
