Workshop Report: Part 3

Right: Just to make sure we don't get cocky, the rafters are tapered (thanks to Jerome Daley (NY) and his Woodmizer, and they get a baguette into this diminished housing, thanks to David Crocco (NJ) and his jigs, just below the passing gain that receives the purlin. In this photo the peak of the roof (and the maximum taper) is to the right.

Left: Over in Scarf Town, under the direction of Steve Morrison (ME), things are coming together nicely. The back wall plate was completely cut and assembled before the end of the day, and shipped across the lot to Oscar Emanuel and his crew to prepare for fitting up against the nine posts.

Baguettes produced under the direction of David Crocco with LISEC Treasurer Charlie Kenny. These walnut bits reside in diminished housings just below the purlin locations on the rafters.

Matt Jenkins (IL) is working so hard on those teasel tenons that the antenna on his radio ear protectors is vibrating. We are grateful to Trillium Dell for loaning him to us.

Left: Counterclockwise from bottom left: Neil Godden (MA) leads his happy crew of scribers on the first truss layout. Mark Jackson (via boat from ME), Denny Hambruch with all of his Mafell tools (NY) and David Crocco, Jig and Baguette Master (NJ).

Tapered passing wedges keep this scarf joint in the plate as tight as can be.

Tool box.
