Smithsonian Institution's 1999 Folklife Festival
June 23-27 & June 30-July 4, 1999 Photo credit: J. Wormington, B. Wormington We marveled at the craftsmanship of New Hampshire tradesman. Here are a few notables. 
The chainsaw sculptor. 
Timber pulling demonstration in the field next to the Guild's tent. 
A timber framed sugar house built by New Hampshire farmer Roy Hutchinson. 
Cooking demonstrations provided free treats to the participants in the Festival. 
My favorite: dueling bag pipers Gordon Webster, Scottish bagpiper for Queen Elizabeth, and his wife, Leslie Patterson Webster, of the New Hampshire School for Scottish Arts in Manchester. 
One of the New Hampshire stages was fortunately sited under the trees, thus giving Festival goers a welcome break from the blazing sun.
