Guild - PTN Rendezvous
June 27-July 4, 2009
Frankfort, Kentucky
Registration is now open for our next Rendezvous, to be held in partnership with the Preservation Trades Network (PTN) in Frankfort, Kentucky, from June 27 - July 4. Modeled after the Guild's Camp Letts event in 2008 as well as past PTN and UKCF gatherings, this will be an outdoor event with on-site camping that will be very low cost and attractive for the whole family. PTN and TFG members will have a chance to get to know one another while enjoying the festivities and sharing their skills. Our sponsors for this event are the Kentucky Heritage Council, the Frankfort Tourism Commission and the City of Frankfort.
There are two workshops planned:
Timber Frame Picnic Shelter Workshop, which will include laying out and cutting a white oak picnic shelter. Students who enroll in the timber frame workshop will have the opportunity to learn square rule layout, cutting square rule joinery and using hand and power tools.
Log Meat House Workshop will involve Restoration of the first period log meat house at Cove Spring Park, where the camping and camp kitchen will be. Attendees who enroll in the log meat house workshop will have an opportunity to learn how to document and draw a log structure, as well as how to properly deconstruct, assess and store the components.
Schedule
The two workshops will take place from Sunday, June 28th, to Wednesday, July 1st, and the Preservation Rendezvous will begin on July 2nd and run through July 4th. The first day of the rendezvous, attendees will be invited to join the raising of the picnic shelter, and the last day will end with Frankfort's fabulous fireworks display. Attendees will be welcome to stay and camp that night and enjoy Frankfort on Sunday before heading home. Frankfort is a beautiful historic town with lots of small shops and places to eat, all within comfortable walking distance.
The picnic shelter workshop will take place at the River View Park but instructors and students of both workshops will be able to camp and eat at Cove Spring Park, just a few miles away (see the map at http://www.iptw.org/rendezvous-09.htm).
Kentuck Registration Fees
