Part 1 Report: Friday, June 17, 2005We're doing pretty well out here in the pastoral landscape of northeastern Indiana. With the exception of some heat and rain early on, the weather has been fine for working. Cloudy and in the 60s today, with a nice breeze.
Our crew continues to expand, not only in numbers, but in girth as well. The meal service has been varied, cheerful, and abundant. Holly Gorrell has organized a complete menu and rotating teams of service club volunteers to prepare and serve us. We didn't come all this way just to eat, and some timber framing did break out between meals. It's a good thing, too, because this building is huge. A good portion of this work was begun at out Professional Development Workshop in Illinois last month, but there is still enough to do to push our raising date back to Thursday next. With good weather we should be in good shape. We're confident enough of this to plan to take Sunday off. As of this writing, all of the A and B wall posts are cut, and have been fit into their plates, which were marked, drilled, and set aside in assemblies for the raising. We hope that by this time tomorrow, we can say the same about the B and C wall posts, though they have many more mortises in them, and the wall assemblies have an additional connector, lacking in the A and B walls. We'll keep you posted. In the meantime, here are some pictures of the goings on. Photos by Joel McCartyClick on any photo for a larger view
