Farm & Wilderness Dairy Barn
Professional Development Workshop, July 31-August 4, Brattleboro
Practicing, professional timber framers can receive advanced training and interact with their peers at the 2006 PDW in Brattleboro, Vermont. This intensive session is geared toward shop timber framers with 1 to 4 years of experience. Space is limited to 15 attendees so sign up early. Call or email Joel.
In conjunction with the Farm & Wilderness Dairy Barn project, the main focus of this PDW will be the production cutting of about 100 sticks for the complicated bents and small gable dormers. This is an intensive course of 200 level"methods. Each student shall bring their personal tools plus one big tool for production work, a tool that other students can see operate and evaluate.
The week's curriculum/staff includes:
Production Methods - Rick Collins & Dennis Marcom
Shop Safety - Will Beemer
Tool Use & Maintenance - Alicia Hammarlund
Business Basics - Randy Churchill
Forklift Certification - Lori Nelson (WRTC)
First Aid - TBD
Cost is $250 per student for the most advanced, focused training available in the states this year. Each day runs 8 - 5 so the program is geared for commuters from regional shops; evening meals and lodging are not arranged (but non-locals are certainly encouraged to attend). TFBC shops are encouraged to call Randy to inquire about the curriculum and predicted outcomes.
The course location is the Windham Regional Technical Center in Brattleboro, VT - close to Exit 1 off I-91. The Carpentry shop (w/ classroom), run by Bob Simeon, will be ours for the week in addition to the large lot back of the building.
