We are offering a combined timber framing workshop and community event in Boise. We’ll be building a pavilion for the Idaho State Historical Museum in Julia Davis Park in the heart of the city. The open air pavilion features king posts and double knee braces to handle the windy (but not snowy) climate. The basket-weave roof, similar to what was done in Rindge, New Hampshire years ago, has the rafters progressing from large (in the bents) to small (on the exterior).
This project is also a workshop on square rule timber framing, with enough challenge and variety to please the novice and the expert.
Joel McCarty will be the instructor, with at least one other qualified instructor, depending upon enrollment.
Fee & Accommodations: The $500 fee for members ($600 for non-members) includes dorm housing at Boise State University for the first 20 registrants; there will also be camping options. We have arranged for early breakfasts plus lunch each day on site and most important, a project of manageable size and complexity, plus a variety of other challenges (early morning work so as not to be unduly influenced by the smoke from seasonal forest fires) and amusements (such as the trout stream running right through the job site).
These workshops tend to fill up, so to avoid missing out, get your plans in place and register early. You may register in the online store, or you may fax or mail the registration form.
Cancellation policy: If you need to cancel, tuition is refundable minus a $50 administrative fee if we're notified by July 14. If you cancel after that, the fee may be applied to another Guild event.
Contact Joel McCarty if you have any questions.
