What is the COLTS Mission?
The COLTS Cooperative Project mission is to provide an opportunity for the youth of our community to learn the skills of shop carpentry, through the specialized craft of timber framing, in an atmosphere which promotes fellowship, integrity, respect, and dignity.
What is the COLTS Vision?
The COLTS vision is to bring the adults and youth of Huffman together through cooperative projects for community improvement.
What will students gain through the COLTS Cooperative Project?
Directly, students will:
- learn a specialized craft
- build a foundation of employable skills
- contribute to the community of Huffman
- establish relationships with members of the community
- starting next year, students will have the opportunity to earn certification for Wheels of Learning, a nationally recognized construction curriculum.
In addition, according to COLTS program leaders Simon and Bonnie Gnehm, students will:
- learn self-respect and responsibility
- learn self-motivation skills
- learn the benefits of effective communication, independent and cooperative learning, and problem-solving techniques
- experience the value of their achievements through perseverance
- discover their potential through meaningful relationships
