Colorado Geometric & Scribe
October 9-16, 2010
Fort Collins, Colorado

This is a Partnership between the City of Fort Collins, the Gardens at Spring Creek, and the TFG.

Briefly, we'll expand upon our sold-out Geometry with Laurie Smith workshop in 2009, and add a large dose of pro-level scribing instruction and practice.

There are two options for attendees:

1. The Full Monty - professional timber framers only - October 9-16
2. Geometric Instruction Only - aimed at design professionals, but all are welcome - October 13-14 (stick around for the raising on the 16th, too!)

Leadership Team includes Laurie Smith, Glen Dodge, Chris Kates, with Isaac McCoy-Sulentic as an assist, and Adrian Jones, as the local hero.

Logistics—Fort Collins is a lovely spot on the front range, with all manner of amenities and distractions. We expect to be able to make withdrawals from the Bike Library, for touring.

Those Guild members who have been to England to attend the UK Carpenters Fellowship meetings, and those few of you privileged to attend last year's Geo Workshop in the Berkshires know Welsh artist and historian Laurie Smith and his fascinating research into medieval geometric frame design (see Timber Framing #70 & 90). We have recently learned a thing or two from Glenn Dodge about his advanced scribing method. (see Timber Framing #96&97) We now have an opportunity unfolding to bring the two together in Colorado in October 2010.

Geometrical Design: Learning the finer points of drawing with the medieval compass

Geometrical layout: Laying out the frame for cutting without using any numbers or math

We will be working in the following curriculum areas, but we will NOT be providing Journeyworker or Apprentice trainings at field events in 2010 - that's a goal for 2011.

As with all TFG fields events, daily safety and progress meetings, personal protective equipment, and good behavior are mandatory. In return we warrant an excellent experience in community building, and highest quality timberframing.

As with all TFG fields events, there's bound to be some fun, and the 'XK-Factor' (Exuberant Camaraderie) For instance, we'll be raising this building right next to the FC Bike Library. We'll be making some withdrawals from this institution to support our exploration of indigenous brewing culture, if we get our work done on time. http://www.fcbikelibrary.org/)

We've arranged for a pretty good deal on lodging from a supportive local hotel, reservations must be made by Sept 8th. to get the super deal at the Hilton Fort Collins 970-494-2942 or 970-482-2626. (Be sure to mention 'Timber Framers Guild') Expect to be fed two meals a day by an extraordinary carterer who is devoted to local foods. There is no evening meal on the 9th. Students are on their own in Old Town Fort Collins, which should prove diverting enough.
