July 17 The Timber Framers Arrive!

The volunteers and professional timber framers have arrived and are working on laying out timbers under the purple and white striped tent, while work continues on setting the rafters for the first floor deck.

July 14

Timber framer Phil Newey and his crew have been busy finishing the first level. After the crane raising on July 14, the barn looked like this.

Monday's work.

The tent has proved useful already, as the Berkshires weather maintains its reputation for variability. As Mark Twain reportedly said on a visit to the area, "If you don't like the weather, just wait a minute." Right: Layout begins on the big pieces. From left: Bob DiBona of south Boston, Doug Hutcheson of Amherst, MA, and Chris Zollo of Oswego, NY, framing square on the fly. Note the Borneman Tool also in use.
