The first bent goes up, on schedule, around 8:30 in the morning. The next 4 follow as quickly and easily.
The first bent goes up easily. Many hands do indeed make light work. Volunteers line up in 2 rows: the first to lift, and the second standing behind, pike poles in hand to help the lifters past a certain point.
Temporary side bracing is hammered into place.
As more Monterey townsfolk gather to watch, the second bent is lifted.
Pike poles help the lifters of the 2nd bent.
Above and below: The 3rd bent is raised. ![]()
Volunteers from the Town of Monterey join the fun. | ||
