Timber Framer

Big Timberworks was created by Merle Adams & John Palmer in 1983. In 1990 BT began the practice of buying commercial salvage fir from industrial buildings being demolished accross the US & Canada. This material was largely from the old growth forest so it was a very high quality fibre, plentiful, and inexpensive. Today we continue this practice although the secret has long been out so the inexpensive part has changed. If you are contemplating building a timber frame, and the aeshetics of the joinery are important to you then reclaimed material is likely the choice for you. New (green) timber will shrink, check, and twist as it seasons to its equilibrium causing all sorts of issues with the aeshetics of your joinery. Your project will not fall down with green timber however your joinery will change over the course of six or more years. In 1999 BT was reorganized into an employee owned workers Co-op. Here at BT we are passionate about what we do and we enjoy making new and lasting relationships with our clients, architects, engineers, contractors, vendors, and last but not least our fellow employees. Call us today, we would love to meet you!
