This course gives students a basic overview of general terms, tools, and techniques used in the field of carpentry. Learn how to safely use a range of power and hand tools while building a small structure such as a garden shed or outbuilding. We will cover house framing and layout while looking at the anatomy of a structure, addressing floor, wall, and roof systems. Whether you're planning on building a shed, a house, just want to learn some basic carpentry skills to become more self-sufficient or want to learn the vocabulary to be able to communicate with a contractor, this course will help you gain the confidence you'll need. This course presents the basic techniques and principles of house building and carpentry. This course includes: Vocabulary pertaining to carpentry, tool usage, structural members, lumber, layout, techniques, and other things that you would see on a jobsite. Learning safety and building competency techniques with power tools and hand tools. Learning how to accurately measure, mark, and cut to a line with different types of on-site learned cuts utilizing a circular saw and other saws. How to read construction plans. Basic construction math. Tricks of the trade to make your work easier and safe. Having fun while learning about and building a structure.
