Learning time-honoured basic timber framing principles and techniques, is an essential component in constructing a traditional timber frame structure. Students learn to work from a set of drawings, traditional mortise and tenon joinery, layout, cutting, and assembly procedures, proper safe use and storage of hand and power tools, and safe raising/rigging techniques. Students apply theoretical and practical skills to build, as a class, a new 16′ x 20′ timber frame structure using traditional joinery methods and materials.
