Timbers to tenons, posts to purlins, pegs to pizza (wood-fired, that is), North House Folk School is happy to announce the return of the Timber Framers Guild to Grand Marais, Minnesota, for a 2018 North-Central Regional Timber Frame Gathering. Scheduled April 27-29, timber framers of any and all levels and interest are invited to gather on the shores of Lake Superior at North House Folk School.
The 2018 North-Central Regional Timber Frame Gathering will be filled to overflowing with all things timber framing - workshops, storytelling, pre-gathering course offerings, and abundant woodchips. The Gathering kicks off Friday night with an open house, a tour of the North House timber-framed campus buildings, and a film screening. Saturday will feature speakers on topics, including using SketchUp, grant-based projects, and Japanese-style framing. In the afternoon, we will move out of the classroom and into the shop or outside for a variety of hands-on demonstrations, including sharpening, timber carving, blacksmithing, ax throwing, and joint busting. The evening culminates with a wood-fired pizza bake (BYO: Build Your Own!) and a group slide show. Sunday morning will include brunch and a presentation.
You can register for the weekend by visiting the North House Folk School website. Families are welcome. Pre-event course opportunities require separate tuition and registration. Contact Jessa Frost at North House Folk School for more information.
