We may know how to design and cut the ultimate timber frame, but do we know how to build our business for success?
We will answer your business questions through small groups and informal discussions. Topics will include: starting up a business (legal structure, insurance), marketing, sales, operations (employees, management), contracts and contract types, leadership, and estimating the cost and sale price of producing a timber frame.
We will share resources like documents, systems, and procedures, and we will have plenty of time to discuss what is on your mind. We will also spend some time on exercises designed to get you thinking about what you really want your business to become, and then help you get there.
Students will be able to continue the conversation after this workshop through an online peer group on Basecamp hosted by the TFG.
The instructor for this course is Brad Morse.
Brad Morse started in timber framing as a Heartwood apprentice in 2004. His business, Uncarved Block, primarily builds custom new homes in Western Massachusetts. He, like so many tradespeople, has juggled the split or transition between being a craftsperson and a businessperson. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Timber Framers Guild.
