Learn the fundamentals of Japanese Timber framing during this 6 day, all inclusive workshop, taught by Jason Fox of Never Stop Building. We'll learn several critical Japanese joints for jointing timbers such as the staked tenon, hanched and collared tenon, sill beam corner tenon, and floating keyed tenon, while we will cut and errect the frame for a gardening shed. This building has been designed to encourage students to build thier own structures, using commonly available dimensional sized timbers and not requireing heavy equipment for assembly.
The workshop includes all meals, and students my tent or rv camp on site at no charge.

General design philosophy and layout of the Japanese timber frame structure
Review of terms and understanding of layout markings
Selection and preparation of timbers
Use of Japanese tools along with power tools to cut mortise and tenon joinery
Team assembly and raising of the structure
Process of adjusting, squaring, and fixing the structural members.
Optional hand plane finishing certain parts of the frame
