New Timber Framing school opens in Western North Carolina

I’d like to announce that the Timber Frame Learning Center of Western North Carolina will open its doors on January 15th, 2024. The location is 1132 Old Fort Road, Fairview, NC 28730.

The first class will be held in February 19, 2024, six-day course.

The first frame to be cut will be a 12’x12’ shed with a 12/12 roof pitch out of eastern white pine.

This class will be limited to 12 students. Cost is $900, with a deposit of $150 down to reserve spot.

Daily workshop times will be from 8am to 5 pm with a 30-minute lunch break at noon. The lunch will be provided by the school.

Skills being taught will be traditional square rule layout on rough sawn timbers. Including mortise and tenon joints, brace and brace pocket layout, peg hole draw boring, fit up testing of each joint and raising principals. Also, “how to keep track of your joints” and plan reading.

Lead instructors are Dan Flinn of Hendersonville, and Jim Rogers of Sneads Ferry, NC.

Please send an email to Jim Rogers at and I’ll send you more details including a link to the registration form.
