Wanted: Project Engineer

Right now, we are in need. In need of a Project Engineer/Project Manager to support our West Coast operations. Someone who knows a lot…a lot about wood, a lot about people, a lot about engineering and production deadlines, basically, a lot about life.

New Energy Works has been in business on the West Coast for 12 years, while our sister shop has been operating in western NY for 30. We are carrying on the rich tradition of heavy timber construction into the 21st century, while balancing craft and technology. We are employee-owned, and follow the triple bottom line, putting equal emphasis on People, Planet, and Profit. Our design and engineering team is in Portland, Oregon, and our manufacturing shop is in McMinnville, Oregon (this position could work out of either our Portland or McMinnville location).

We’re offering a professional workplace with a great team with decades of experience. You will be working directly with the Engineering Manager and the Lead Designer and will have ample opportunity to learn from the company Founder as well.

We are looking for a well-rounded team member that has knowledge of residential construction techniques and is able to read blueprints. Although this position is titled as Engineer/Project Manager, the role will require many hats to be worn, including sales and admin support, project engineering and management, as well as helping to develop relationships with outside suppliers, contractors, and architects.

This is a full-time position. We offer a great benefits package with 70% company-paid medical, paid holidays and PTO, vision, dental, and a matching 401K plan. We are a 30% Employee-Owned (ESOP) company, on our way to 100%, and when appropriate, we enjoy company-wide profit-sharing. There is an opportunity for help with moving costs for the right co-worker.

We actively seek to build an inclusive and diverse workplace where people from all walks of life are welcomed. We don't discriminate for all the right reasons but are partial to people with lots of common sense.

  • AutoCAD – Required
  • Proficiency with computers, email, and video conferencing – Required
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) – Preferred
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, specifications, and plans – Preferred

Desired but not Required:

  • Knowledge of HSB_CAD software
  • Structural/statics engineering knowledge
  • Ability to write code (Tool Scrip Language is similar to C++)
  • Experience with wood and off-site construction

  • 4+ Years construction or manufacturing experience

Think you’re a good fit, please apply today.

Think you’d like to join us, but are not sure about your experience? Send us some details about what you have done and why you’d like to become part of our team. We’re glad to consider you!
