Timber Frame Designer
Vermont Barns, a Wadsworth Company, was born out of a passion for crafting traditional Vermont-made timber frame barns. We craft our timber frames using both century old hand-cutting techniques and our Hundegger K2 CNC machine. We have been building custom timber frame barns and homes throughout southern Vermont since 1995. We maintain relationships with our clients years after we’ve completed their projects and consistently produce high quality projects.
We’re looking for a Timber Frame Designer! The Designer is primarily responsible for ensuring that timber frame structures are designed and drafted to meet customer requirements and expectations, as well as, monitoring the production process to ensure ‘Quality Control’ and the high service standard goals of the company are met in the final project/ product. Have the experience, knowledge & know-how, to take a project from inception to final product install and/or delivery
SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES
Meets with client/architect/designer/builder/engineer to discuss the customer requirements, expectations and budgets
Prepares design time estimate’s, board foot and, timber list take-offs.
Work in lock in step with production manager to ensure specifications, quality control, schedule and customer expectations are met.
4. Prepare budget costs and proposals for residential projects
5. Prepare bids proposals for commercial projects
On contracted projects: design timber frame 3D models & enclosure systems, develops the connection details, generates shop drawings and prepares material lists & order lists.
Receive and process change orders; inform sales of new costing & review with client before approval
Liaises with internal teams and client to maintain timeline of project - develops good working relationships and establishes a solid basis for cohesive team approach
Coaches & mentors ‘Junior’ Timber frame designers
Ensures company goals and customer objectives are met and a projects a positive company image
Monitor projects as they are being manufactured and assist the production and finishing departments
Attend raising if local
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of machine program by Hundegger & the Hundegger capabilities. preferred but not required
Uses advanced understanding of design principals, terminology, project requirements, methods, practices, and techniques of heavy Timber Frame construction & general construction.
Thorough knowledge of AutoCAD (and HSB CAD preferred but not required) to prepare plans, construction drawings and specifications from rough sketches to final design
