Workshop Opportunity: Learn to Forge Timber Framing Tools

The art of timber framing is deeply connected to the tools used in the craft. New Guild member the New Agrarian School, located in Bigfork, Montana, is now offering a workshop specifically aimed at integrating the making and use of the traditional tools of this trade. This school of blacksmithing and rural crafts offers classes in the design and forging of blacksmithing, small-scale agriculture, and woodworking tools already, and the inclusion of specialized tools for timber framing is a natural addition. A two-week workshop scheduled for the end of August will explore the forging of hewing axes, slicks and mortising chisels, log dogs, drawknives, and other tools used in timber framing work. Students can expect to leave with a small collection of handmade tools and an introduction to their use in timber work.  Learn more about this course with school director Jeffrey Funk HERE.
