About

We are a company of craftspeople. For over 32 years we have designed and built beautiful, custom, timber frame structures for clients in Massachusetts, New England, and across the United States. A family company in its second generation of leadership, we have been employing a group of timber framers year-round for more than three decades, and are committed to our people.

Our work covers the full spectrum of contemporary timber frame heavy timber aesthetics and structure. With roots in traditional mortise and tenon joinery, much of our work draws on the historic vernacular forms of the cape, saltbox, and colonial. We also do a wide variety of more contemporary work, including classic and modern lake and mountain styles, freespan trusses of 40’ and more, soaring great rooms, and curved timber arches, as well as one-of-a-kind institutional and commercial structures. We welcome the challenge of special projects, large or small.

We have full in-house design capacity, which allows us to design our work from scratch or serve as active and effective partners in design by others. We regularly collaborate with talented architects and engineers to provide just the right structure and aesthetic feel for the client.

We primarily work in western Douglas fir and eastern red oak, while often also using eastern hemlock, white pine, western red cedar, and reclaimed historic timbers in a variety of species. Solid timber with wood-to- wood connections is the core of what we do, but we will use engineered timber, glue lam, structural splines, and structural or decorative steel when appropriate for a specific project.

Our timber framers lay out and hand cut one piece at a time. We have a system for double and triple checking our work before it ships. The cutters travel to the client’s site and erect the frame as well. We raise and install our own work to ensure that the whole job is done right and to have the satisfaction of seeing the final result.

Our mission is to bring all of our resources, passion and experience to delivering the perfect timber frame for each specific client, site, and budget - every time.

Services

In addition to building the timber frames, we offer a full line of services for owners, contractors, and architects. Whether or not we design the building, we communicate and coordinate with all sub-contractors that are involved in the project from start to finish.

  • We can design your building, be it a house, barn, garage, pavilion or anything in between
  • We will source the material and fabricate the frame
  • The same crew who cuts the frame will travelt to your site and raise the timbers
  • We can have your plans stamped by a Professional engineer

Just tell us what you need and we will do our best to help.
