Presentation

Crafting the Spiral: Advanced Techniques in King Post Truss Design
Join us for an immersive 90-minute session where we delve into the intricate art of carving a spiral king post truss. This presentation is designed for timber framing carpenters and engineers eager to expand their technical repertoire and enhance their craftsmanship. We'll begin by exploring the key objectives of laying out a spiral, visualizing the spiral within a large timber, and the precise methods for laying out joinery in a spiral to ensure a flawless fit. Additionally, we will revisit a remarkable project in Buena Vista, Virginia, where we successfully designed, cut, and raised a spiral king post. This project will serve as a practical case study to illustrate the challenges and triumphs encountered during the process. Attendees will leave with a deeper understanding of the techniques required to carve and cut a spiral king post, empowering them to tackle complex designs with confidence in their future projects.
