Our hosts for this Community Building Project are our old friends, Snohomish County, at the waterfront Kayak Point Regional County Park in Stanwood, Washington. Learn about the park and its interesting history.
Snohomish County is doing a major upgrade to the park this year, which includes the three small timber framed pavilions constructed during this Community Building Project. This beautiful 670-acre park includes a campground and beachfront. Our camping, dining, and social area for this event is tucked into a corner among trees and right on the waterfront.
The site address is 15711 Marine Dr, Stanwood, WA 98292. Find it here.

The three structures are each 16’ x 24’ with two bays. Each one is different from the others, featuring scissor, queen post, and king post trusses, along with three different purlin and rafter systems.
The design of the structures has been developed by the Guild under the direction of Bill Sturm.
The design of the frames provides opportunities for learning in areas such as scribe layout, curved braces, and roof system design, and we will be running a 2-day pre-build workshop for those interested in a deep dive into scribing methodology. (Details on the pre-build workshop coming soon!)

For this project, we will cut the frame at the park, which is a beautiful coastal waterfront site with camping and all amenities on hand. Accommodation will be camping, with showers and washrooms provided.
Meals for participants will be provided by the Guild and our catering contractor, and you can expect three hearty, healthy, and tasty meals per day, plus snacks and endless tea or coffee and other beverages.

There will be evening educational presentations on a range of timber framing topics, and possibly some local sightseeing and exploration.
We can accommodate pets on this project, but there is an on-leash policy in the park - pets must remain on leash at all times. If this does not suit you and your pet, please leave them at home.
The event runs for 8 days, from July 17 to 24, inclusive.
The pre-build scribing workshop will run for 2 days (July 15-16).
Instructors
The Guild seeks one project manager and three instructors to lead the project. One instructor position will be the lead instructor. All positions are fairly compensated.
The Community Building Projects Committee is working to expand representation within our instructor teams. We are specifically seeking qualified women, POC, LGBTQ+, indigenous, and differently-abled people to offer a broader leadership coalition. Please feel free to nominate someone who might not otherwise apply for this position, and we will reach out to them with an invitation to apply.
Please note that instructors must have commercial general liability insurance.
Applications for all positions will be accepted via the instructor application form HERE. Please submit your resume and any inquiries to Community Building Projects Program Director Steve Lawrence and Communications Director Allison Aurand.
Position Requirements & Descriptions
The deadline for instructor applications is May 9, 2026.
Apply to become an instructor.
Volunteers
We have 24 volunteer positions available for this event. These positions are not compensated, but you can expect the traditional TFG XC (exuberant camaraderie) and a very rich and rewarding experience. Guild instructors are there to support you in your learning objectives.
Participants will perform hands-on timber frame layout, cutting, and raising under the direction of the instructor team. This project will be suitable for those with reasonable levels of fitness and basic hand/power tool skills.
You must be a Guild member to participate! If that presents a challenge for you, please talk to us. We can work something out, and we want to help you join in the fun.
Please note that volunteer applications do not guarantee acceptance. We may have more applications than positions, so please do not make travel arrangements until you've received notification of acceptance. Please message us if you have not heard and need to know for planning.
It will be possible to bring family with you, and with appropriate safety management for non-participants, we expect to be able to accommodate family groups for camping. Food service will be available for family members at a reasonable cost. Please indicate on your application submission if any family members are joining you and wish to join us for meals.
Non-participating family members, and especially children, will be asked to follow basic safety protocols regarding entering the work areas. Dogs are welcome, but are required to be on leash per the park policy.
If you have questions, please contact Community Building Projects Program Director Steve Lawrence and Communications Director Allison Aurand.
The deadline for volunteer applications is May 16, 2026.
