Weekend Activities
Join us for a hands-on timber framing project designed to offer meaningful skill-building opportunities for participants at every level, from first-time beginners to experienced framers looking for a deeper technical challenge.
This relatively small frame has been designed to take advantage of the beautiful setting where we’ll be working. Your workspace is a covered pavilion with a large, flat concrete floor - ideal for full-size layout, teaching, and collaborative work.
The project will feature a combination of accessible timber framing tasks and more advanced layout challenges. The roof system is straightforward and will provide the foundation for a beginner-friendly track, with plenty of opportunities to practice core timber framing skills.
For those ready to take on more complex work, we’ll be exploring compound joinery through a combination of lofting and stereotomy, the traditional European method for laying out complex three-dimensional forms. Instruction will include full-size layout led by an accomplished boat builder and timber framer. Particular focus will be given to the crossing posts, which splay outward, and the braces that connect them to the planar plate timbers. These elements will serve as the primary teaching pieces for the more advanced layout methods.
Whether you are looking to build confidence with the basics or stretch your understanding of complex joinery, this project will offer plenty of opportunities to challenge yourself at the right level.
Full-size layout is expected to begin in the pavilion on Friday afternoon, after the gathering officially begins. By Saturday morning, work will be well underway, with a recap provided for those arriving later. The goal is to complete the finishing touches on Sunday morning.

Sponsorships
In 2026, members of the Timber Framers Guild will gather across North America for regional events: casual weekend celebrations of timber framing where we work and learn together, share stories of life and our craft, and build a small project to share with a community organization.
We invite sponsors to join us in bringing these invaluable community events to life. Our sponsors are recognized across our social media, on our website, and in event outreach and materials. Whether you donate materials, space, or meals, or support these events financially, your contribution is deeply appreciated by the members volunteering their time to develop these Guild Rendezvous.
