Workshop Opportunities!!

Open to the Public!!

We are proud to present a two-day intensive layout workshop. The Thresheree Carousel frame offers many opportunities to learn these skills, and we offer this workshop to anyone wanting to dive deeper into layout methods and practice.

These workshops will cover a wide range of material and are suitable for professional carpenters or enthusiastic amateurs. The workshop will provide participants with the opportunity to learn and practice square rule or compound layout skills, with one-on-one coaching.

You will work on your own timbers for the carousel pavilion. We will not cut any joinery in this workshop. Subsequent cutting and installation will be performed during the Community Building Project.

The workshop will run for the two days prior to the community build. There are camping facilities available to you, including showers. A light breakfast and lunch will be provided. Evening meals are not provided, and you should make plans for yourself, but we will attempt to coordinate a communal dining experience at a restaurant or possibly barbecue on-site.

About the Project

The structure is twelve-sided (dodecagon) in plan, with a clear span of 53’ at the posts, and with a porch on one side for the ticket booth. The roof has a twelve-sided lantern, and both roofs have a 5:12 pitch. The main roof is supported by concentric rings of purlins. Timbers are rough-sawn in a mix of oak and pine and will be supplied by local hero Brian Zabel.

The design of the frame provides opportunities for learning in areas such as square rule layout, compound roof joinery for hips and purlins.

You should select either square rule or compound layout when you register.
