Island School of the Building Arts
James Mitchell is the owner/principal instructor at the Island School of Building Arts, a registered trade school in British Columbia, Canada. For 27 years, James taught log and timber construction, Big Wood Center Rule Program, to students from around the world. Recently retired, James is the author of five log and timber books, including the newest: Log Building, A Masters Guide and Timber Framing, A Masters Guide. These two hardcover companion books teach the four forms of Big Wood log and timber construction, using one common Center line reference/layout. James also brings with him 20 years of training and learning development within the standard educational system as well as work with First Nations communities across Canada. His recent trip to Japan with the TFG solidified his passion for applying historical wood working knowledge to current timber framing and log building practices.
