We are a consulting engineering firm practising in Canada, with licenses in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and Northwest Territories/Nunavut. We specialize in non-conventional building materials, especially 'natural' or 'pre-industrial' materials: timber, stone, earth, and straw.
Building Alternatives founder, Dr. Kris Dick, is a professor in Biosystems Engineering at the University of Manitoba and the director of the Alternative Village - a working laboratory for alternative materials and energy at the Fort Garry campus in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
